“There’s a Forest in Every Home! A Journey to Discover Our Relationship with Trees and Forests”
Monday, May 30th, 9:00 PM–11:00 PM, Sala dei 400
Cultural event curated by Luigi Torreggiani and Giorgio Vacchiano
Wood has always been a companion to us, both as a species and as individuals.
Since prehistoric times, we have used it as fuel for warmth, for cooking food, and even for defensive purposes. Over the years, we have learned to appreciate its qualities and versatility. We use wood to produce objects that inhabit both countryside homes and city apartments. But how does wood reach its destination? Who decides what objects can be made and with which type of wood? And how can we establish criteria for the sustainable management of such an essential resource?
To answer these questions, SISEF is hosting an evening of outreach to discuss wood and its sustainable management, aiming to connect consumers with the origins of the products they use. Taking the stage will be Ferdinando Cutugno and Luigi Torreggiani, professional journalists with a keen interest in innovation and sustainability, along with Giorgio Vacchiano, a researcher and science communicator.
Special guests include:
- Naldo Anselmi, Emeritus Professor at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo, and author of books on the rural traditions of the Orvieto region;
- Lucia Perugini, from the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change, expert in international programs for mitigating global changes;
- Riccardo Valentini, Professor at the University of Tuscia, Viterbo, member of the 2007 IPCC Board – Nobel Peace Prize laureate;
- Davide Ascoli, University of Turin, researcher and communicator on the complex topic of forest fires.
The event will feature a mix of monologues and dialogues, using humor and sarcasm to highlight the challenges in recognizing the forest and its vulnerabilities behind an everyday object. Not to be missed!
